Beyond the Scale: What a Styku 3D Body Scan Can Tell You About Your Body

Beyond the Scale: What a Styku 3D Body Scan Can Tell You About Your Body

You can step on a scale and know exactly what you weigh. But that number doesn’t tell you the whole story.

Are you building muscle? Losing inches? Has your body composition changed even though your weight hasn’t? And if you’re investing time and energy into your health, strength, weight loss, or body contouring goals, how do you know if what you’re doing is actually working?

At Lifted Beauty + Wellness in Seattle, we use the Styku 3D Body Scanner to help answer those questions.

In about 35 seconds, Styku creates a 3D model of your body and captures detailed body measurements. The result is a more complete picture of where you are today—and an objective way to track how your body changes over time.

Because when it comes to your body, the scale only tells part of the story.

What Is a Styku 3D Body Scan?

Styku is a non-invasive 3D body scanning system that uses infrared imaging to capture the shape and measurements of your body.

During your scan, you’ll stand on a rotating platform while the scanner captures your body from multiple angles. Styku then creates a three-dimensional model of your body and generates detailed measurements that can be saved and compared with future scans.

There are no needles, electrical currents, or radiation. The scan itself takes approximately 35 seconds, and a standalone Styku visit at Lifted takes about 10 minutes from start to finish.

What Does a Styku Body Scan Measure?

One Styku scan can capture 21 circumference measurements, including areas such as your waist, hips, chest, thighs, arms, calves, and neck.

Your scan can provide information including:

  • A 3D model of your body
  • Circumference measurements
  • Waist-to-hip and other body ratios
  • Body shape and volume
  • Body composition estimates
  • Body fat and lean mass estimates
  • Changes in measurements and body shape over time

There’s an important distinction here: Styku directly measures the shape, size, and circumferences of your body from the 3D scan. Body composition values, such as body fat and lean mass, are estimates calculated from those measurements.

That means we don’t look at one number in isolation. One of the greatest benefits of Styku is the ability to establish a baseline and then compare your own results over time.

Why Does Body Composition Matter More Than Weight Alone?

Your weight is one piece of information. It isn’t the complete picture.

Two people can weigh exactly the same and have very different amounts of muscle and fat, different measurements, and completely different body shapes.

The same is true when you’re evaluating your own progress.

You may lose fat while building or maintaining muscle and see very little change on the scale. Your weight may stay relatively stable while your waist measurement decreases, your clothes fit differently, and your body becomes stronger.

That’s why at Lifted, we’re interested in much more than making the number on the scale smaller.

We’re interested in strength, muscle, body composition, function, and how you feel in your body—especially as you age.

Can Styku Track Body Contouring Results?

Yes. In fact, this is one of the primary reasons we brought Styku to Lifted.

Body changes can be difficult to see when you look at yourself every day. And relying on before-and-after photos alone doesn’t always give us the objective information we want.

A Styku scan allows us to establish a baseline before beginning your body program. We can then repeat your scan and compare your 3D models and measurements over time.

At Lifted, we use Styku alongside body services such as Emsculpt NEO, truSculpt flex, SculpSure, and our comprehensive Body Transformation Membership.

The goal isn’t to chase a perfect number. It’s to have better information so we can evaluate your progress and make more informed decisions about what comes next.

Is Styku Only for Weight Loss?

Not at all.

In fact, we think this is one of the biggest misconceptions about body composition.

A Styku scan can be valuable for someone who wants to lose fat, but it can also be helpful if you’re focused on:

  • Building or maintaining muscle
  • Improving strength and body composition
  • Tracking changes from body contouring
  • Establishing a baseline before beginning a new wellness or fitness program
  • Monitoring changes during weight loss
  • Preserving muscle while losing weight
  • Tracking progress that isn’t reflected on the scale
  • Understanding how your body changes as you age

Healthy aging isn’t simply about weighing less.

Maintaining muscle and strength becomes increasingly important as we get older. That’s one reason we believe body composition deserves a place in the conversation about long-term wellness.

We aren’t only asking, “How do you want your body to look?”

We’re also asking, “What do you want your body to be able to do?”

Can Styku Help Track Muscle and Body Composition While Taking a GLP-1?

If you’re using a GLP-1 medication for weight loss, the number on the scale is only part of the story. What you’re losing matters, too.

Research shows that while the majority of weight lost with GLP-1–based medications comes from fat, some lean mass is typically lost as well. A recent analysis of 22 randomized clinical trials found that approximately 25% of total weight loss was lean mass, although individual studies have reported varying amounts.

For example, a body-composition substudy of the SURMOUNT-1 clinical trial found that approximately 75% of the weight lost by participants taking tirzepatide came from fat mass and approximately 25% came from lean mass.

It’s important to understand that lean mass isn’t exactly the same thing as muscle. Lean mass also includes water, organs, bone, and other non-fat tissue. However, preserving skeletal muscle is an important consideration during significant weight loss, particularly as we age.

This is where tracking body composition can become especially valuable.

Establishing a Styku baseline and repeating your scans over time allows you to look beyond total pounds lost and monitor changes in estimated fat mass and lean mass alongside your measurements and body shape.

If maintaining or building muscle is part of your goal, your results can also help start a broader conversation about adequate protein, resistance training, and muscle-focused services such as Emsculpt NEO or truSculpt flex as part of a comprehensive approach to supporting strength and body composition.

At Lifted, we don’t believe successful weight loss should be measured only by how much you lose.

It’s also about what you keep.

How Accurate Is a Styku 3D Body Scan?

Styku uses infrared 3D imaging to directly capture body shape and circumference measurements. Its body composition estimates are then calculated using those measurements and validated algorithms.

Styku’s Advanced body composition model has been studied against DEXA, a commonly used clinical reference method for body composition. Peer-reviewed research has shown strong correlations between Styku estimates and DEXA measurements for fat mass and fat-free mass.

But it’s important to understand that all methods of assessing body composition in a living person involve estimates. No body composition scanner should be treated as an infallible measurement of exactly how much fat or muscle your body contains.

Where Styku becomes particularly useful is consistency.

When you repeat your scans using similar positioning and clothing, we can compare your measurements and 3D models with your own previous results.

For us, the most useful question isn’t necessarily:

“What is my exact body fat percentage?”

It’s:

“How is my body changing?”

What Is the Difference Between Styku and an InBody Scan?

Styku and bioelectrical impedance devices such as InBody use different technologies to estimate body composition.

Bioelectrical impedance analysis, or BIA, sends a small electrical current through the body and uses resistance to estimate body composition. Those readings can be influenced by factors such as hydration.

Styku instead uses infrared 3D imaging to measure the body’s shape and circumferences and uses those measurements to estimate body composition.

Because the technologies and calculations are different, you shouldn’t expect your Styku body fat percentage to exactly match a reading from an InBody, home smart scale, or another body composition device.

If you’re using Styku to monitor progress, the most useful comparison is generally Styku to Styku over time.

What Should I Wear for a Styku Body Scan?

The scanner needs to accurately capture the shape of your body, so fitted clothing is best.

Think leggings or fitted shorts with a fitted top or sports bra. Long hair should be pulled up and away from your neck and shoulders, and bulky jewelry or accessories should be removed when possible.

Loose clothing can become part of the shape captured by the scanner and affect your measurements.

If you’re coming back for progress scans, we recommend wearing similar clothing each time. Consistency helps us make the most meaningful comparison between scans.

Do I Need to Fast or Avoid Exercise Before a Styku Scan?

No.

Because Styku uses infrared imaging rather than bioelectrical impedance, Styku does not require you to fast or avoid exercising before your scan.

That makes it easy to incorporate into a regular Lifted visit without having to plan your entire day around your scan.

How Long Does a Styku Body Scan Take?

The scan itself takes approximately 35 seconds.

You’ll stand still in a guided position while the platform slowly rotates. Styku captures the information it needs to create your 3D model and measurements.

A standalone Styku appointment at Lifted takes approximately 10 minutes.

It’s quick, non-invasive, and simple.

How Often Should I Get a Styku Body Scan?

It depends on your goals.

If you’re beginning a body-contouring, muscle-building, weight-management, or wellness program, we typically want to establish a baseline before you begin.

From there, follow-up scans can help us evaluate meaningful changes over time.

More frequent isn’t necessarily better. Bodies change gradually, and the goal isn’t to become fixated on tiny fluctuations from week to week.

We want enough time between comparisons to answer a much more useful question:

Is what we’re doing moving you toward your goals?

How Much Does a Styku 3D Body Scan Cost at Lifted?

A standalone Styku 3D Body Scan is $50 at Lifted Beauty + Wellness.

However, Styku is more than a standalone service for us. We’ve integrated it into the way we approach body care and long-term progress.

In-Person Consultations

Your Styku 3D Body Scan is included complimentary with an in-person consultation at Lifted.

If you’re considering body contouring or aren’t sure where to begin, this is often the best place to start. Your scan gives us objective baseline information that we can consider alongside your goals, lifestyle, and what you’d like to accomplish.

From there, we can create a more personalized plan rather than simply choosing a service.

Body Transformation Membership

Monthly Styku 3D Body Scans are included complimentary with Lifted’s Body Transformation Membership.

Our Body Transformation Membership was created around a bigger idea than simply completing a series of body-contouring sessions.

It’s an ongoing approach to building and maintaining muscle, supporting strength and body composition, tracking progress, and continuing to care for your body over time.

Styku gives our members an objective way to follow that journey and see changes that may not always be obvious on the scale—or even in the mirror.
